FusionLayer Works to Make NFV Simpler With New Certifications

It's not always easy to understand the various ins and outs of network functions virtualization (NFV). This is partly because it is a new infrastructure transformation technology that is evolving rapidly and partly because it involves a lot of moving parts and challenges.  FusionLayer, however, wants to make it a little simpler to work with this complex system, and has done just that with some new certifications on Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) resources.

More specifically, FusionLayer's FusionLayer Infinity is now certified for use with HPE's NFV Infrastructure (NFV-I) system, along with the OpenStack Carrier Grade virtualization platform. FusionLayer Infinity is a software-defined IP address management (SD-IPAM) system that allows for more ready deployment of virtual network functions (VNFs) for not only the increasing numbers of software-defined networks, but also for traditional networks.

What's more, FusionLayer's solution lines offer a system that's been regarded as a best practice in NFV not only by the TM Forum but also by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. That particular practice is the use of Unique Identifiers (UID) instead of just regular names for release parameters on VNFs. FusionLayer can also automate provisioning for IP addresses, and can even move all these points, in real time, into the Domain Name System (DNS). There's even a means to manage several different networks from one single platform.

FusionLayer's CEO, Juha Hoikkola, noted “Communication Service Providers around the world are developing new on-demand services that leverage emerging technologies such as cloud and Network Functions Virtualization. When run alongside HPE NFV-I and OpenStack Carrier Grade, FusionLayer Infinity allows CSPs to standardize release parameter provisioning for NFV regardless of whether the VNFs are deployed in traditional or software-defined networks. This enables service providers to introduce new innovative services at the speed of business.”

That's a lot to keep in mind, but it comes down to one main point: simplification. NFV’s promised value is already appreciated by service providers, but its complexity has been a cause for pause.  It is one of the reasons why the evolving NFV ecosystems such as HPE’s provide a level of certainty and consistency for service providers looking to accelerate NFV adoption timeframes.
